I've been working on this Made in USA toys article for quite a while now. Lots of toys I've come across are designed in the USA, but made in China and other places around the world. There are only a handful of toy manufacturers who still make toys within the US. With the recent toy recalls, people are becoming more wary of toys made outside the USA. Here's a look at what I came up with - a selection of toys made in the USA.
How can I leave out the Vermont Teddy Bear Company from this list of the Made in USA toys? The famous teddy bears from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company are all made in Vermont, USA and are guaranteed for life. Check their website out for all the teddy bears you can possibly dream about!
I've personally experienced playing with the Dado cubes and Dado squares and I have nothing but praise for both these items. These Made in USA toys are brightly colored, challenging and engaging toys which your kids are sure to love. Check them out.
Montgomery Schoolhouse toys are made of Eastern white pine and Rock maple, two types of trees found in Vermont. These wonderful toys are all wooden. Initially, these made in USA toys were simpler, with just a clear finish. However, these toys are now available in bright, primary colors as well. Take a look at the Montogomery Schoolhouse toys made in the USA.
I first tried out the Wikki Stix in a restaurant close to home, as part of the little kid's entertainment package they gave us. My little one loved it and we had the most peaceful dinner imaginable! Wikki Stix are these little bendable, twistable wax coated sticks which can be used to create all sorts of shapes and characters you can think of. According to their website, "Wikki Stix are made of acrylic hand-knittng yarn (the kind you'd use to knit baby booties!) and a food-grade, microcrystalline wax, derived from the petroleum refining process. This wax is also used in lipsticks, bubble gum and as a covering for certain cheeses." Sounds good, right? Wikki Stix happens to be Made in the USA.
As a rule, I like Briarpatch's games and puzzles. They're well designed, challenging and fun for the kids. Although all of Briarpatch's toys and products are not made in the USA, they do have a selection that is made in the USA. The products that are American made have a circle with a USA flag sign indicating this right below the product description on their website.
I came across this charming site just by accident. I'm so glad I did, otherwise I would have missed seeing the wonderful Camden Rose toys, most of which are made in the USA. Camden Rose offers a wide range of toys and games, right from pretend play toys to wooden cars and yo-yos. Take a look at the Camden Rose line of Made in USA toys.
Green Toys is a toy manufacturer which says it specializes in Made in USA toys. I'm assuming their company was inspired by the demand for Made in USA toys brought about by the toy recalls in 2007. Although the Green Toys products are going to be available in the Spring of 2008, here's their website.
